Position Purpose
To provide leadership for departmental programs and projects, manage residential communities of 350-850 undergraduate residents, and design, implement, manage, and encourage community development and educational programs that facilitate integrative learning and foster student academic, social, and emotional growth. Also, to provide guidance, counsel, adjudication, and leadership to encourage students to take responsibility for their actions and to manage positive communities that foster acceptance, tolerance, and consideration for the rights and freedoms of others. This is a 12-month live-in position.

Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp Bachelors plus 2-3 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Two years of residential life experience, with at least one year of residential life experience at the graduate level or above.
  • Solid foundation in student development theory and student learning theory, and their application to professional practice in an evolving residential setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to personal and departmental integrity, creativity, collaboration, initiative, multicultural education, and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence; proven effectiveness in serving the needs of a diverse undergraduate student population.
  • Experience supervising student staff.
  • Familiarity with budget administration.
  • Ability to adapt personal and professional schedule to the College's year-round calendar.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Supervisory and leadership ability.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster positive and productive relationships with all campus constituencies, including institutional leaders, faculty, staff, students, and parents and families
  • Ability to balance competing demands under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in student personnel, education, counseling, or related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with computer systems and applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Google Drives, StarRez, Maxient, CampusGroups, and Canvas.
  • Experience working with living learning programs.

Key Accountabilities

Description
House and Program Administration
  • Manages day-to-day operations for an undergraduate residential community of 350-850 students, overseeing programs, events, staff, facilities, and services.
  • Provides counseling, mediation, and resources for resident students on personal and academic matters.
  • Sets community programming goals, directs student staff efforts, and collaborates with faculty to implement the residential house model and learning programs.
  • Attends meetings, responds to emergencies, and fosters a shared sense of identity in the assigned residential area.
  • Coordinates the residential leadership team, advising student groups and fostering involvement.
  • Collaborates with academic departments for academic engagement and programming in residential communities.
  • Manages opening/closing processes, collaborates on facility maintenance, and reports issues to Residential Operations.
  • Participates in housing assignments, resolving room assignments and roommate conflicts.
  • Collaborates across departments to ensure facilities support programmatic needs.
  • Maintains residential community budget, adhering to Dartmouth policies, and collaborates on the administration of the residential college budget.

Supervision
  • Manages and evaluates 10-20 undergraduate student staff and co-supervises 4 graduate students.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to involve graduate staff in the residential program.
  • Works with Residential Education staff to select, place, and train 150 undergraduates and 24 graduate students annually.
  • Designs and implements a continuing education program for student staff, offering professional development opportunities.
  • Acts as the primary supervisor for House administrative professional staff.

Student Support and Conduct
  • Manages the campus-wide case management system using Maxient, participating in situational case management meetings.
  • Acts as a college hearing officer in collaboration with the Undergraduate Judicial Affairs Office, utilizing Maxient for hearings and educating residents on college standards.
  • Addresses crisis, emergencies, and student behavior at the hall/community level, training and overseeing student staff in Maxient use.
  • Participates in the campus-wide Assistant Director on-call rotation, responding to student crises and critical issues.
