Job Description: Pathologists' Assistant - Pathology

The Pathologists' Assistant is responsible for the preparation, gross description and dissection of surgical pathology specimens and the performance of postmortem examinations under the medical direction of the pathologist(s) while implementing the hospital and laboratory missions, goals and objectives.

Additional Requirements:
  • Independent judgment and initiative required to schedule, organize, and plan work.
  • Responsible for care and accuracy in collection and labeling specimens.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in emergency situations including working additional hours or shifts.
  • Ability to work efficiently, accurately, and alertly for extended periods of time, and under stress.
  • Knowledge of HIS and LIS, assorted laboratory instrumentation appropriate to scope of position and dependent upon current technology.
  • (PA)ASCP required. Equivalent certification not accepted
Experience Requirements:
  • Previous Pathology Assistant experience current to 12 months - Required
  • Bachelor Degree Required (Masters Preferred)
  • NY PA License - Required
Certification Requirements:
  • ASCP
  • BLS (AHA)
State License Requirement: New York

Additional License Requirement: NY license must be in hand at profile upload. Facility will not pend license
