Position Purpose
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, the Night Security Guard is responsible for the physical security of buildings and facilities (to include grounds, equipment, and other items of value) and for the safety of persons employees, students, guests, and visitors to the campus.
Description
Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp High School or equivalency

  • One to three years of experience in the field of security
  • Must hold a valid driver's license and be qualified under the terms of the
  • Good written, verbal, and computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate with a diverse community.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate good judgment and the ability to make decisions within the confines of standard operating procedures
Preferred Qualifications
  • First Aid/CPR certification

Key Accountabilities

Description
Duties
  • Detect, deter, and report any and all issues affecting the physical security of buildings, facilities, ground, equipment, etc. via prescribed patrol rounds on foot and vehicle.
  • Perform the duties of a Campus Safety Authority (CSA) as defined by the Clery Act.
  • Follow the Department Emergency Procedure and Protocols in cases of emergency and respond to emergencies in accordance with department plans, written directives, supervisor directives and best practices.
  • Report to work on time and stay until properly relieved. Will not leave early unless previously approved by supervisor, and abide by department regulations and expectations.
  • Supplement other Safety and Security personnel in providing security coverage for special events, during emergencies, and crime deterrent patrols.
  • Positively and actively interact with other Safety and Security personnel, faculty, staff, students, and public.
  • Act in accordance with a position of public trust including timeliness, proper respect for and use of authority, maintaining confidentiality and high moral and ethics standards.
  • Report to the Director any activities of Security personnel which would impair his/her ability to carry out his/her responsibilities as a security employee. * This would include such activities as employee theft, misuse of keys, misuse of authority.
  • Assist in maintaining department vehicles, including washing outside and cleaning inside and seeing that the cruiser and department equipment is properly handled during security shift.

Description
Patrol Duties
  • Perform extensive physical activity including climbing stairs, walking long distances, standing for long period of time and carrying out duties in inclement weather.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the campus and buildings to assist in maintaining safety and identifying risks.
  • Secure and open facilities following a schedule or upon request.
  • Provides physical security patrol and building security for all facilities on campus through prescribed rounds and on a timely fashion.
  • Immediately report any identified issues and call for a Security Officer or Supervisor.
  • Patrol assigned group of buildings and record their stops at various locations through a guard tour system, ensuring building security, facility safety and observable building mechanical integrity.
  • Support Patrol Officers in answering complaints from the College community and responding to them in the proper manner when needed.
  • Patrol parking lots during tour of duty checking for the theft and/or damage to vehicles, and/or anything out of the ordinary.
  • Approach and attempt to identify persons when necessary. During this or any other contact with persons on campus, all attempts will be made to avoid physical contact. If this is not possible and physical confrontation occurs, the Director is to be notified as soon as possible. If he/she is unavailable, notify the Captain and the Dean of Call if so directed.

Office Duties
  • Use of the radio equipment and Alarm systems and act as dispatcher, when requested.
  • Write supplemental narratives or statements to detail involvement in incidents.
  • Unless specifically assigned to office or desk duty, Night Security Guards will not spend extended lengths of time in the office.
